Correction to the September 2008 Residential Sprinkler Article
The authors have submitted a new drawing for the residential sprinkler layout on page 73 of the September 2008 issue. The original drawing was taken from an actual installation. Unfortunately, the drawing did not convert well from AutoCAD. The corrected drawing is more accurate regarding the sprinkler locations. Another problem associated with the drawing in the magazine is the location of the sprinkler in the kitchen/dining room. The original design was based on the use of a Tyco LFII sprinkler with an area of coverage of 18' x 18'. For demonstration purposes, the type of sprinkler was modified to show flows using the new hydraulic calculations in the International Residential Code. When using the Viking sprinkler, two sprinklers would be required for the kitchen/dining room since the sprinkler only has an area of coverage of 14' x 14'.
